#071 : The Uncomfortable Truth About Taking Back Control of Your Health
There’s a moment many women reach where health starts to feel heavy and want to Take Back Control of Your Health
Not physically heavy.
Mentally heavy.
Heavy with rules.
Heavy with expectations.
Heavy with all the things you feel like you should be doing.
And the strange thing is… most of those rules weren’t ones we consciously chose.
They appeared gradually over time.

The Backpack of Rules
Imagine you’re walking through life carrying a backpack.
Every rule about food goes in there.
Every belief about exercise.
Every expectation about what your body should look like.
Some of them started in childhood.
Maybe dinner meant finishing everything on your plate.
Maybe food was used as comfort when you were upset.
Maybe exercise felt embarrassing at school.
Then the diets arrive.
The meal plans.
The fitness programs.
And slowly that backpack fills up.
We keep walking through life carrying all of those expectations without even realising how heavy they’ve become.
Until one day we’re just exhausted.
And when Menopause hits.. Oh Lordy, this is the moment we truly sense the weight of this backpack. Check out my FREE full menopause course here. (To get it free, just drop your email in the box and use the code from the email)
When Diet Culture Takes Control of Your Health
One of the reasons health starts to feel so hard is because somewhere along the way we stopped questioning the rules.
We assume someone else knows better.
The diet.
The program.
The plan.
Imagine sitting in a car where someone else is driving.
They promise they know the best route.
But the road is bumpy.
It feels uncomfortable.
And yet you stay in the passenger seat because you assume they must know what they’re doing.
That’s often what diet culture feels like.
We hand over the steering wheel and hope the plan will take us somewhere better.
The Uncomfortable Truth About Taking Back Control Of Your Health
Taking back control of your health can feel uncomfortable.
Because responsibility isn’t the same thing as blame.
Responsibility simply means ownership.
It’s the moment you realise:
This is my life.
I get to decide how I take care of it.
Diet culture may have shaped the rules we learned.
But we still get to decide which ones we keep following.
The Two-Degree Turn
When people try to change their health, they often try to overhaul everything at once.
They start exercising five days a week.
They completely change how they eat.
They sign up for long gym memberships.
But real change rarely works that way.
Instead of making a huge U-turn, imagine turning the steering wheel just two degrees.
A small shift.
Maybe you don’t have time for a 30-minute walk today.
Instead of quitting completely, you ask:
What can I do instead?
Five squats in the kitchen.
A few push-ups against the counter.
A short walk while you’re on a call.
Small actions might seem insignificant, but they build something incredibly important.
Self-trust.
Moving From Passenger to Driver to Take Back Control of Your Health
When you start asking yourself “What can I influence here?” something changes.
You stop feeling helpless.
You stop feeling like health is something that happens to you.
Slowly, you move out of the passenger seat and back into the driver’s seat.
You may still want to get to the same destination.
More energy.
Better health.
Feeling stronger in your body.
But now you get to choose the road you take to get there.
And when you’re the one driving, the journey usually feels a lot smoother.
